Sensing Edges
Touch-sensitive devices designed to detect obstructions and signal controls to stop and/or reverse motion.
Installed on the leading edges or vertical sides of jet bridges, lift platforms, and conveyor edges, sensing edges activate when touched. This contact triggers a signal to stop or reverse the motion of the equipment. Common uses include:
- Jet bridge elevation and retraction systems
- Powered cargo or baggage conveyors
- Lift gates and dock levelers

How Sensing Edges Work
Wireless Sensing Edge Solutions
Photo Optics
Non-contact, infra-red obstruction detection that signal controls to stop and/or reverse motion.
Infrared photo optics create an invisible beam to monitor areas near equipment movement. When the beam is interrupted, a signal is sent to stop or reverse equipment motion. Three types are available to suit different airport environments:
- Retro-Reflective: One-sided detection using a reflective target
- Thru-Beam: Uses a long-range emitter and receiver and a single beam
- Light Curtains: Multiple thru beams create a blanket of detection
Sensing Mats
Pressure-activated floor mats for access zones or control points.
These mats respond to pressure and can be configured to trigger alarms, halt equipment, or activate access controls.
