Secure Area & Concession Safety
Reduce Risk Near Motorized Doors and Grilles
Automated grilles, rolling doors, and sectional barriers play an important role in securing staff-only areas and concession spaces. However, these systems may present potential hazards to nearby individuals if not equipped with appropriate safety features. Miller Edge provides sensing solutions designed to support safer access and help meet safety standards, including products that meet UL 325 in North America and CE in Europe.
From low-profile countertop grilles to fire-rated rolling doors, our Made-in-USA products are used throughout airport facilities to help address safety considerations and maintain operational efficiency.
Solutions to Support Safer Access
Sensing Edges
Touch-sensitive devices designed to detect obstructions and signal controls to stop and/or reverse motion.
Touch-sensitive sensing edges activate when they come into contact with a person or object. They send a signal to the motorized system to stop or reverse, helping to reduce the risk of entrapment or impact. Suitable for:
Ideal for:
- Countertop shutters and retail grilles
- Fire-rated rolling doors
- Staff-only areas separated by sectional doors
- Proudly made in the USA for lasting performance
- Provides compliance with UL 325 requirements

How Sensing Edges Work
Wireless Sensing Edge Solutions

Photo Optics
Non-contact, infra-red obstruction detection that signal controls to stop and/or reverse motion.
Photo optics use infrared light to detect the presence of people or objects. When the beam is interrupted, the sensor signals the system to respond by stopping and/or reversing a door’s motion. Available options include:
- Retro-Reflective: One-sided detection using a reflective target
- Thru-Beam: Uses a long range emitter and receiver and a single beam
- Light Curtains: Multiple thru-beams create a blanket of detection
Often applied in:
- Entry grilles for concessions
- Access-controlled rolling or sectional doors
- Transition points between public and restricted areas

VisiLight LED™
Real-time visual alerts for increased visibility at motorized entry points.
Integrated LED lighting systems provide real-time visual cues at motorized entry points—helping drivers, pedestrians, and personnel anticipate door and gate motion before it occurs. VisiLight™ increases visibility and reduces confusion in busy, especially where multiple access points operate simultaneously.
Ideal for:
- Parking garage entrances and exits
- Barrier arms and rolling grilles
- Secure staff and service entry lanes
- Gated facility access points

Access Control
Real-time detection to power smarter access and control.
Smart sensing technologies that detect approaching or departing vehicles and/or pedestrians. These sensors integrate with access control systems to trigger actions like motor activation, audible or visual alerts, or equipment response—improving awareness, efficiency, and control across a wide range of environments.
Ideal for:
- Monitoring entry and exit at secure or restricted access points
- Automating doors and gates for authorized personnel or vehicles
- Enhancing perimeter security with presence detection and alerts
- Managing traffic flow in high-traffic concession or service areas
- Preventing unauthorized access during off-hours or emergencies
- Integrating with airport or base access control and monitoring systems
Options:
- Intelligent Motion Detection: Recognize vehicles or pedestrians and activate motor controls and alerts.
- Treadle Sensors: Detect traffic presence and signal entry or exit events for integrated control systems.
