Bifold Gate Safety

Bifold gates offer fast, space-saving operation, but also present multiple entrapment risks. As of February 21, 2023, ANSI/CAN/UL 325 clarifies that entrapment protection must be applied to areas where a moving bifold gate or operator components may trap a person against an opposing surface.

Miller Edge offers pressure-sensitive sensing edges and non-contact photo eyes tailored for vertical or horizontal bifold movement. Built for harsh environments, our rugged solutions support UL 325 compliance and help protect people, vehicles, and property.

Sensing Edges
Target safeguarding of entrapment and hazard zones created by the open and close cycles of an automated vehicular gate with a Miller Edge sensing edge. Custom configured for length, wire outlet location, monitoring method required by the gate operator, and series connected when needed. Assemble-in-the-field sensing edges are a cost-effective option that can be configured at the job site. Mounting channels and wireless edge systems are available to accommodate any gate installation.

Photo Optics
When optimally positioned, Miller Edge photo optics provide non-contact safeguarding of entrapment zones created by the open and close cycles of an automated vehicular gate.

Gate illustrations show common product placement locations to consider when protecting entrapment zones, however each installation is unique and must comply with certain safety standards and local codes. Be sure to consider all potential safety hazards and incorporate appropriate Miller Edge guarding into your overall gate design. Please read your gate operator’s manual and follow manufacturer’s requirements.
